§43.14(a): Abuse and maltreatment training
Teaching and supervisory staff must be trained to identify and report child abuse and maltreatment. The rule calls for 2 hours every 24 months and for new staff to be trained within 3 months of hire. The citation means that training was missing or out of date.

The city's wording
Teaching and supervisory staff trained in abuse/maltreatment identification and reporting. 2 hours of training received every 24 months. Training provided by OCFS approved trainer. New staff trained within 3 months of hire
This is the text DOHMH or the state attaches to the citation. It is a template, so it can sound harsher or vaguer than the finding behind it.
Worth asking the center
When was your staff last trained on recognizing and reporting abuse?
Reading it on a record
Look at whether the citation is marked open or corrected, how long ago it was cited, and whether the same section shows up on several inspections. One corrected citation is common. The same one on visit after visit is worth a direct question. Our guide to checking a daycare and methodology explain the rest.
