Privacy Policy
This policy explains what we collect and why. It is general information, not legal advice.

This policy explains what personal information NYC Daycare Check collects, why, and your choices. We aim to collect as little as possible.
1. What we collect
- Email address — only if you choose to watch a center for change alerts, buy a Safety Analysis report or report pack, or claim a provider listing. We use it to send the alerts/receipts you asked for and to sign you in.
- Payment information — handled entirely by our payment processor, Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number; we receive only a customer/subscription identifier and status needed to grant the feature you paid for.
- Provider responses — text you voluntarily submit for publication.
- Usage analytics (first-party) — we log anonymous usage events (pages viewed, searches run, which features are used) to a database we operate, tied only to a random per-visit ID stored in your browser's session — not to your name, email, or IP address. We use it to learn whether the site is useful and what to improve. No advertising profiles and no third-party ad trackers.
- Web analytics (third-party) — we use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand traffic sources and how pages are used (e.g. which search engine or site referred you). Google Analytics sets cookies for this; we have data-sharing with Google's other products turned off, and we don't use either service for advertising. See Google's privacy policy.
- Session cookie — a single signed cookie to keep you logged in after you use a magic-link sign-in. No third-party advertising cookies.
We do not collect information about children, and we ask that you not submit it.
2. How we use it
To provide the features you request (alerts, passes, responses), to authenticate you, to process payments through Stripe, to operate and improve the Service, and to comply with law. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
3. What we never do
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it except with the service providers needed to run the Service (e.g. Stripe for payments, our email provider for alerts, our hosting/analytics providers), each only to the extent needed, or where required by law.
4. Retention & deletion
We keep your email and watchlist while your account is active. You can remove watched centers at any time, and you can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing privacy@nycdaycarecheck.com. Payment records may be retained by Stripe and by us as required for tax and accounting purposes.
5. Your choices
You can use the entire free Service — search, records, map, and comparison — without giving us any personal information. Email is only needed for optional alert/paid features. You may unsubscribe from alerts at any time.
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, signed session tokens, server-side authorization). No method is perfectly secure, but we design to minimize the data we hold.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for use by adults (parents, guardians, and providers). It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes & contact
We may update this policy; the "last updated" date reflects changes. Questions or requests: privacy@nycdaycarecheck.com.
